The black-and-white keffiyeh became a symbol of Palestine nationalism during the Arab Revolt of the 1930s. Its meaning grew even stronger in the 1960 when adopted by Arafat and Palestine resistance movement.Black and white keffiyehs are associated with Fatah, while red and white keffiyehs are associated with Hamas. Increased sympathy and activism by Westerners toward Palestinians in the Israeli-Palestine Conflict it became a sign of their solidarity with Palestine. Because of its utility it was adopted by the several armies and police forces in Middle East. Today it is quite casual and one of the fashionable” hipster” youth accessories.
